WEST ORANGE, NJ – The Seton Hall Prep varsity basketball team won three games last week to improve its record to 10-0.

On Tuesday, Jan. 9, the Pirates hosted Montclair and former SHP basketball player Gary Wallace, who is in his second year as the Montclair head coach. SHP won, 63-56.

Alex Imegwu had 24 points and four steals, Ashton Miller had 17 points, five rebounds, five assists, and four steals; Jabri Abdur-Rahim had 10 points and 10 rebounds, and Geordan Walker had four points, six rebounds and four assists.

On Thursday, Jan. 11, the Pirates traveled to Down Neck Newark to take on East Side and defeated them, 71-58. Imegwu had 20 points and seven rebounds; Abdur-Rahim also scored 20 points and had 11 rebounds and eight assists; Miller had 18 points, five rebounds, and five assists; and Walker had 9 points, four rebounds and three assists.

On Saturday, Jan. 13, SHP participated in the 14th Annual Dan Finn Classic at the Jersey City Armory and defeated St. Peter’s Prep of Jersey City, 62-55. Senior guard Jesse Reid III scored a career-high 14 points to lead a fourth-quarter rally. He said after the game, “I am trying to take advantage of the opportunity I have this year by giving it 100 percent every game. I want to do everything that coach (Kevin) Williams wants me to do and do everything I can to get the team the victory.”

Williams commented on Reid’s play. “He is so fast with his ability to attack the basket,” Williams said. “He had a couple of big blocks and a big rebound. With St. Peter’s concentrating on Ashton, Jabri, and Alex, to get some buckets from Jesse going to the rim was big.”

Miller, the Player of the Game, said, “We are a lot tougher this year, which is something we really wanted to focus on. We also want to stay together and play together as a team this year.” Miller finished with 15 points and five assists. Reid also had seven rebounds and five assists; Imegwu had 13 points and five rebounds; Abdur-Rahim had 12 points and seven rebounds, and Walker scored eight points and had seven rebounds and four assists.
