WEST ORANGE, NJ – The Seton Hall Prep varsity cross-country team ran to an impressive second-place finish in a field of 25 teams at the Brown Northeast Cross-Country Invitational held on Oct. 15th at Goddard Park in Rhode Island – their best finish at this invitational.
After a bold first mile, senior Malik Kosanovich held onto seventh place in a personal best of 15:53, his first time under 16:00 and a top 20 time in New Jersey. Junior Dan Gizzo ran to a personal best of 16:02 and an 11th-place finish. Junior Mike DiDonato (16:29), senior Sean Theoclitus (17:00) and senior Ben Groppe (17:12) all ran impressive personal bests and rounded out the top five scoring for the Pirates.
Junior Matt Martins (17:16, personal best) and senior Jack McCarthy (17:52, Goddard personal best) rounded out the team of seven. The team average of 16:31 is its fastest since 2004. The Pirates’ next race will be Friday, Oct. 28, when they take on Brookdale Park and tough county competition at the Essex County Championship.
