WEST ORANGE, NJ — The Seton Hall Prep football team improved to 2-1 on the season with a 24-10 victory over Passaic County Tech at Brendan P. Tevlin Memorial Field on Sept. 21.

Senior running back Matt Colantuono rushed for 112 yards and senior quarterback Zander Zebrowski passed for 175 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Pirates.

On their first drive of the game, the Pirates went 55 yards in 15 plays capped by a seven-yard TD pass from Zebrowski to senior wide receiver Nicholas Gullace. Junior Austin Kuterka added the first of three extra points for a 7-0 lead.

Passaic Tech tied the score at 7 when Amair Buffaloe returned the ensuing kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown.

Late in the first quarter, senior defensive back Tim Macko intercepted a Bulldog pass. Seton Hall Prep drove 50 yards in five plays with Zebrowski hitting sophomore wide receiver Nick Dunneman on a 33-yard scoring pass to give the Pirates a 14-7 lead with 10:58 left in the second quarter. Later in the quarter, Passaic Tech cut the lead to 14-10 before Seton Hall got a 37-yard field goal by Kuterka on the last play of the first half to increase the lead to 17-10.

Late in the third quarter, Zebrowski hit Gullace on a 51-yard touchdown pass down the right side to make the score 24-10 with 2:38 left in the third quarter.

Following the game, Macko  talked about his interception. “We were in a cover 2 defense and I saw that the Passaic Tech quarterback was looking my way just before the play and I broke on the ball and it worked out perfectly. Our defense really kept them off balance all day.”

Gullace commented about the offense. “The game plan was to be explosive on offense. The offensive line really blocked great and our skill guys executed the offensive plan the way the coaches designed it.”
