RAMSEY, NJ – In the best effort by the team all season, the Seton Hall Prep varsity football team lost a heartbreaking 14-13 decision to Don Bosco Prep in the first round of the NJSIAA Non-Public Group 4 playoffs on Friday night, Nov. 11, at Charles I. Granatell Stadium on the campus of DBP in Ramsey.
Seton Hall Prep, seeded fifth, finished the season with a 2-8 record. DBP, the fourth seed, won its third straight game to move to a 6-4 record.
The Pirates opened the scoring in the second quarter when freshman running back Kyle Monangai ran around the right end for an 11-yard touchdown with 9:25 left to cap a 13-play, 70-yard drive. Sophomore Zach Hoban kicked the extra point to make it 7-0. During the drive, junior quarterback Cameron Carti was 5-of-5 passing for 38 yards.
In the third quarter, DBP tied the score at 7-7 with 3:07 left.
On the ensuing possession, SHP drove 67 yards in eight plays, capping it when senior running back Michael Mughetto scored around the right end from nine yards with 11:11 left in the fourth quarter. The extra point failed as SHP led 13-7.
DBP took a SHP punt and started its drive at its own 36-yard line, driving 64 yards in six plays and scoring with 1:14 left. The extra point made it 14-13.
