Seton Hall Prep football team falls to Montclair in wild game, 63-44

 

MONTCLAIR, NJ – In a wild game at historic Woodman Field in Montclair, the Seton Hall Prep varsity football team lost to Montclair, 63-44, to drop to 2-6 on the season.

After Montclair took a 7-0 lead, SHP tied the score on a nine-play, 65-yard drive that ended with Kyle Monangai’s 1-yard TD run.  Zach Hoban added the first of five extra points.

On the next Montclair drive, Ryan Monteleone caused a fumble and Niko Diakides recovered it on the Montclair 40-yard line. Hoban connected on a 33-yard field goal to make the score 10-7. That field goal, his seventh this season, set a new school for field goals in a season.

Montclair scored a touchdown to make the score 14-10 after the first quarter. In the second quarter, Montclair scored three touchdowns to take a 35-10 lead before SHP scored when Andrew Perez caught a 6-yard pass from quarterback Cameron Carti to make the score 35-17. Montclair added a touchdown to make it 42-17 before Perez caught a 72-yard scoring pass from Carti to make it 42-24. Montclair scored the last touchdown of the second quarter to make the halftime score 49-24.

SHP opened the scoring in the third quarter when Monangai ran it in from 5 yards out to make the score 49-31. Montclair added a score to make it 56-31 before Perez caught a 33-yard pass from Carti to make the score 56-38 after three quarters. The Pirates scored their last touchdown of the game in the fourth quarter when Perez caught an 8-yard scoring pass from Carti to make the score 56-44 as the two-point play failed. Montcalir scored on a long interception return to make the final 63-44.

RECORDS FALL: The following SHP football records were set on Saturday: Most receptions in a game – Andrew Perez – 12. Most yards by a receiver in a game – Perez – 214. Most yards by a quarterback in a game – Cameron Carti – 360. The following record was tied: Most TDs caught by a receiver – Perez – 4.

Defense: Vincent Henrich: 8 tackles, 1/2 sack. Jonathan Alvarado:  7 tackles. Jack Agnew: 7 tackles. Ryan Monteleone: 7 tackles, 1 fumble caused, 1 interception.

Next game: The Pirates will host the top team in New Jersey, Bergen Catholic, Saturday, Nov. 4, at 2 p.m. at Brendan P. Tevlin Memorial Field. SHP head coach Vito Campanile will face his brother, Bergen Catholic head coah Nunzio Campanile.
