WEST ORANGE, NJ – The Seton Hall Prep varsity football team dropped to an 0-3 record, losing to St. Peter’s Prep of Jersey City, 42-14, at Caven Point in Jersey City on Saturday, Sept. 24.
St. Peter’s jumped out to a 21-0 lead before SHP scored a touchdown. Senior safety Michael Mughetto intercepted a St. Peter’s pass on the St. Peter’s 48-yard line and returned it to the 25-yard line. On the sixth play of the drive, senior tight end Paul Theobald bulled his way in from the one-yard line for the touchdown with 1.4 seconds left in the second quarter. Sophomore Zach Hoban added the extra point to make it 21-7 at the half.
The Pirates took the second-half kickoff and drove 78 yards in three plays to make the score 21-14 with 10:49 left in the third quarter. Mughetto threw a shuttle pass to Theobald, who ran 59 yards for a touchdown.
St. Peter’s closed out the scoring with one touchdown in the third quarter and two touchdowns in the fourth quarter.
Following the game, SHP head coach Vito Campanile commented, “Our team’s attitude and leadership has been tremendous and they are as tough as any kids I have ever coached. We never quit.”
Theobald said, “We were outsized up front, but we just keep fighting every play. We are not going to back down from anybody. We are going to keep coming to play every week and next week we will be ready for Pope John.”

Next game: The Pirates will travel to Sparta to face Pope John on Oct. 1 at 2 p.m.
