Seton Hall Prep football team loses to DePaul

WAYNE, NJ – The Seton Hall Prep varsity football team dropped a 48-14 decision to DePaul Catholic High School at Alumni Field at DePaul in Wayne on Friday night, Oct 20. The loss snapped the Pirates’ two-game winning streak and moved their record to 2-5.

SHP took the opening kickoff and went 71 yards in eight plays with senior quarterback Cameron Carti hitting sophomore wide receiver Ryan Monteleone with a 14-yard scoring pass. Junior place-kicker Zach Hoban added the extra point to give SHP a 7-0 lead with 8:49 left in the first quarter.

DePaul scored two touchdowns later in the quarter to take a 14-7 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, DePaul added two touchdowns to take a 28-7 halftime lead. In the third quarter, DePaul scored two more touchdowns to increase its lead to 42-7.

On the first play of the fourth quarter sophomore running back Kyle Monangai ran it in from the seven-yard line and Hoban added the extra point to make the score 42-14. Later in the quarter, DePaul added a touchdown but missed the extra point to make the final score 48-14.

Receiving: Senior receiver Andrew Perez: 7 receptions for 100 yards.

Defense: Senior defensive back Anthony Algieri, 12 tackles. Junior linebacker and West Orange resident Vincent Henrich: 9 tackles. Senior safety Jack Agnew: 8 tackles.

Next game: On Saturday, Oct. 28, the Pirates will travel to Woodman Field in Montclair to take on Montclair in a 1:30 kickoff.
