Seton Hall Prep football team rally falls short against Paramus Catholic

WEST ORANGE, NJ – The Seton Hall Prep varsity football team opened its home schedule at Joe Suriano Stadium at West Orange High School,  dropping a 41-20 decision to Paramus Catholic last Saturday, Sept. 17, to fall to an 0-2 record.

Trailing 34-0, the Pirates scored their first points of the game when sophomore quarterback quarterback Aidan Gilman  hit senior running back Michael Mughetto with a 26-yard touchdown pass to cut it to 34-6 with 11:50 left in the fourth quarter. The extra-point failed.

After PC extended the lead to 41-6, Gilman hit senior receiver Dwayne Warren on a 67-yard scoring strike with 8:03 remaining. Sophomore Zach Hoban kicked the extra point to make it 41-13.

After a PC punt,  SHP went on a 10-play, 80-yard drive that ended with Gilman’s 14-yard TD pass to Warren, followed by Hoban’s extra point, to produce the final score.

Passing: Gilman, 24-of-36, 275 yards, three TDs.

Receiving: Warren, 10 catches for 166 yards, two TDs. Mughetto, four catches for 53 yards, one TD.

Defense: senior linebacker Paul Theobald, 20 tackles (six solo); senior defensive back Matt Durborow, eight tackles (three solo)

Next game: SHP  will travel to Caven Point in Jersey City on Saturday, Sept. 24, to face St. Peter’s Prep, the No. 1 team in the state, at noon. St. Peter’s Prep is 2-0.
