Seton Hall Prep football team routs Columbia for second straight win

WEST ORANGE, NJ – The Seton Hall Prep varsity football team won its second consecutive game with a 45-6 victory over Columbia at Brendan P. Tevlin Memorial Field on Saturday, Oct. 14.

The Pirates raised their record to 2-4.

SHP took the opening kickoff and went 79 yards in eight plays with senior quarterback Cameron Carti throwing a 2-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Andrew Perez. Junior place-kicker Zach Hoban added the first of his five extra points to make it 7-0 with 8:35 left in the first quarter.

On Columbia’s next possession, on the third play from scrimmage,  SHP junior linebacker Vincent Henrich, a West Orange resident, picked up a fumble and returned it 11 yards for a TD with 6:49 left to make it 14-0. After a Columbia punt, SHP went 59 yards in seven plays, capped by sophomore running back Kyle Monangai’s 2-yard TD run to make it 21-0 with 2:22 left.

In the second quarter, SHP scored on a 53-yard scoring strike from Carti to Perez, a 16-yard TD pass from junior QB Aidan Gilman to sophomore tight end Dominic Busby and a 39-yard field goal by Hoban to make the halftime score 38-0.

In the third quarter, senior RB Charles Tabi ran for a 23-yard TD and sophomore kicker Jack Angelica added the extra point to make the score 45-0.

Columbia scored a TD on the first play of the fourth quarter when Trey Harris hit Luke Hayes on a 69-yard scoring strike. The extra point was blocked by Caseem Akinruli-Dewitt to make the final 45-6.

SHP game stats:

Passing: Carti: 7of 7 attempts for 122 yards and 2 TDs.

Rushing: Tabi: 6 carries for 68 yards, 1 TD.

Receiving: Perez: 4 catches for 80 yards, 2 TDs

Defense: Henrich: 11 tackles, 1 fumble recovery. Senior defensive back Anthony Algieri: 8 tackles. Junior lineman Niko Diakides: 6 tackles, 1 forced fumble. Junior DB Nicholas Eliades: 6 tackles. Senior safety Jack Agnew: 6 tackles.

Next game: The Pirates will travel to Wayne to take on DePaul (4-2) this Friday night, Oct. 20, at 7 p.m. in a North Super Football Conference – White Division game.
