Seton Hall Prep golf team wins ECT title; West Orange HS junior Tyler Galantini finishes second overall

WEST ORANGE, NJ – The Seton Hall Prep golf team won the Essex County Tournament team title at Weequahic Park Golf Course in Newark on April 18.

In addition, West Orange High School junior Tyler Galantini finished second overall with a score of 74.

Seton Hall Prep was led by senior Charlie Smollen, who took third overall with a 78.

Fourteen teams from Essex County competed in the 18-hole ECT.

After waiting an hour for a frost delay, the teams braved wind and cold temperatures to claim the team and individual championships for Essex County.

First place – Freshman Garrett Kessler- West Essex – 73

Second place – Junior Tyler Galantini – West Orange-  74

Third place – Senior Charlie Smollen – Seton Hall Prep – 78 (USGA tiebreaker back 9 to break tie)

Fourth place – Junior Antoine Chouraqui – Newark Academy – 78

Fifth place – Senior Alex Merkin- Livingston – 80

Fifth Place – Sophomore Lilian Wu – Newark Academy – 80

First place – Seton Hall Prep- 325

Second place – Livingston- 334 – tiebreaker back nine holes

Third place – Montclair – 334

Fourth place – West Essex – 336

Fifth place – Newark  Academy – 337.
