Seton Hall Prep hockey team defeats St. Peter’s Prep and falls to Pope John in tough game

WEST ORANGE, NJ – The Seton Hall Prep varsity ice hockey team defeated St. Peter’s Prep of Jersey City and lost to Pope John XXIII of Sparta to move to a 2-3 record.

On Tuesday, Dec. 6. the Pirates traveled to the Barnabas Health Hockey House in Newark and defeated St. Peter’s Prep, 2-0. In the first period, sophomore Thomas Colucci scored on a rebound with 3:35 left on an assist by sophomore JP Foley. In the third period, junior Stephen Buck scored a power-play goal on a rebound with 3:45 left on an assist by Colucci to increase the lead to 2-0. Senior Jack McConeghy had an outstanding game in goal and had 26 saves as SHP outshot St. Peter’s 26-16.

On Saturday, Dec. 10, the Pirates hosted Pope John XXIII at Codey Arena and lost a tough game, 2-1. Pope John scored goals in the first minute in the first and second periods to take a 2-0 lead. Colucci cut the lead to 2-1 with 8:22 left on an assist by senior PJ Murphy. SHP outshot Pope John 8-2 in the third period trying to tie the score and 26-16 for the game.
