Seton Hall Prep hockey team falls to 1-2

WEST ORANGE – The Seton Hall Prep varsity ice hockey team lost twice last week to drop to 1-2 on the season. On Monday, Dec. 7, the Pirates hosted Pope John of Sparta and lost 4-1 at Richard J. Codey Arena in West Orange. After falling behind 2-0, SHP sophomore forward Stephan Buck scored with 11:02 left in the third period on an assist by senior forward Keith Bishop. The Pirates out-shot Pope John, 26-22. SHP junior goalie Jack McConeghy had 18 saves.

On Friday night, Dec. 11, the Pirates lost to St. Joseph of Montvale, 5-2, at Sport-O-Rama in Monsey, N.Y. SHP lead 2-0 in the first period. Bishop scored on assists by senior forward Niall Breagy and Buck. Senior forward Jack Rutter scored on assists by Breagy and junior defenseman Thomas Freda. St. Joseph scored three goals in the final five minutes of the first period to take a 3-2 lead. St. Joseph added one goal in the second period and one in third to close the scoring. SHP out-shot St. Joseph, 22-17.
