Seton Hall Prep hockey team tops St. Peter’s Prep behind Colucci’s hat trick

Sophomore Thomas Colucci scored three goals to lead the Seton Hall Prep varsity ice hockey team to a 5-2 win over St. Peter’s Prep on Friday, Dec. 16, at Codey Arena.

St. Peter’s led 1-0 after the first period. SHP exploded for three goals in the second period. Sophomore Declan House scored on assists by senior Thomas Freda and senior John Dittemer. Sophomore Thomas Colucci scored on an assist from junior John O’Hern. Colucci scored again on an assist from junior Stephen Buck.

In the third period, the Pirates  added two more goals before St. Peter’s scored with :19 left to make the final 5-2. Colucci scored his third of the game on an assist by senior PJ Murphy. Murphy scored on an assist by Colucci. After the game, Colucci  was asked how it felt to score a hat trick. “It feels really good,” he said. “It helped our team get a win against our rival (St. Peter’s Prep) and a really good Gordon Conference team. I hope this propels us in our upcoming games against Randolph and the Pepsi Classic Holiday Tournament.”

In previous action, the Pirates lost to Delbarton, 5-1, Dec. 12. Following a Delbarton goal with 6:19 left in the first period, SHP tied the score when senior Matthew Robinson scored on an assist by junior Jake Sandomeno with 3:00 left in the first period. Delbarton scored three goals in the second period and one in the third period. Senior goalie Jack McConeghy had 23 saves.
