Seton Hall Prep hockey team wins in opener

WEST ORANGE, NJ – The Seton Hall Prep varsity hockey team opened the 2017-18 season with a decisive 8-1 victory over Bishop Eustace on Sunday night, Nov. 26, at Richard J. Codey Arena.

The Pirates opened the scoring when Jake Sandomeno scored on an assist by Thomas Colucci with 2:32 left in the first period. Colucci scored with :11.3 left on assists by Tim O’Connell and John O’Hern then scored again with just :02.8 left on another assist by O’Hern to make the score 3-0 at the end of the first period. They increased their lead to 5-0 when Stephen Buck scored on an assist by Colucci and Buck scored again on an assist by O’Hern. Bishop Eustace scored a power play goal to make it 5-1 before Kevin Bishop closed out the scoring in the second period on an assist by JP Foley.

In the third period, Gavin Angulo scored on assists by Liam Carroll and Phil Feinberg and Colucci closed out the scoring with his third goal of the match on assists by Buck and O’Hern. John Profaci had 15 saves as SHP out shot Bishop Eustace 44-16.

The Pirates began a busy week as they are scheduled to travel to Princeton to take on Princeton Day School on Tuesday, Nov. 28, host Don Bosco Prep on Wednesday, Nov. 29, at the Prudential Center in Newark and travel to the Ice House in Hackensack against Glen Rock on Saturday, Dec. 2, for a 7:45 p.m. start time.
