Seton Hall Prep ice hockey team concludes season

SETON HALL PREP –The Seton Hall Prep varsity ice hockey team completed the 2015-16 season with a 5-14-4 record in Mike Atkinson’s first year at the head coaching helm of the Pirates.

On Monday, the 14th-seeded Pirates hosted 19th-seeded St. Rose/Donovan Catholic and defeated them 4-1 in the first round of the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association/NJ Devils Non-Public Ice Hockey Tournament at Codey Arena on Feb 22.

The Pirates opened the scoring when sophomore forward Stephen Buck scored on an assist by sophomore defenseman Jake Sandomeno with 6:40 left in the first period. They extended the lead to 2-0 when Buck scored on assists by freshman forward Thomas Colucci and sophomore forward John O’Hern, 4:42 into the second period. Colucci scored on assists by Sandomeno and Buck just 1:06 into the third period to make it 3-0. Buck scored his third goal of the game just 3:59 later on an assist by sophomore forward Kevin Bishop to make it 4-0. St. Rose/Donovan Catholic scored with :56 left to produce the final score. SHP junior goalie Jack McConeghy had 12 saves as the Pirates out-shot St. Rose/Donovan Catholic, 20-13.

The Pirates then lost to third-seeded Christian Brothers Academy, 4-0, in the second round on Friday, Feb. 26, at the Jersey Shore Arena in Wall Township. McConeghy had 20 saves.
