Seton Hall Prep ice hockey team is excited about season

WEST ORANGE, NJ — The Seton Hall Prep ice hockey team will begin the season Friday, Nov. 29, against Don Bosco Prep at the Ice Vault in Wayne at 7 p.m.

SHP fifth-year head coach Mike Atkinson is really looking forward to this season.

“Our team will be built on speed and size,” he said. “We plan to be a fast-paced, rush-oriented offense, while our defense and goaltending has another season to mature. We are very excited with our schedule as we moved up to the Gordon Conference-American Division and look forward to the test and improve on last year’s record of 14-9-3.”

Returning forwards are junior Ryan Rodrigues (6 goals, 4 assists last year) senior Alex Kuhtik (5 g, 7 a) sophomore Patrick Zincone (6 g, 3 a), sophomore Aidan D’Urso (2 g, 7 a) junior Brendan Waivada (3 g, 3 a) and senior Sal Micciche (2 g, 2 a).

The returning defensemen are juniors Oliver Grinken (2 g), Harrison Rocheville (4 g and 2 a), Sam Rojas (2 a) and Benjamin Colucci, and seniors Kyle Bishop and Tim O’Connell (2 a).

The returning goalies are sophomore Jake Schunke (10-9-3 record, 2.83 goals-against average, 3 shutouts) and junior Patrick Ackerman (4-0-0, 1.00 GAA).

Following the season opener, the Pirates will host Portledge School on Wednesday, Dec. 4, at Codey Arena at 4:15 p.m.
