Seton Hall Prep ice hockey team moves to 2-5-2

WEST ORANGE – The Seton Hall Prep varsity ice hockey team had a 2-5-2 record entering the week.

The Pirates lost to St. Augustine, 4-1, Dec. 22, at The Igloo in Mount Laurel. Trailing 2-0 in the second period, senior forward Keith Bishop scored on an assist by sophomore defenseman Jake Sandomeno to cut it to 2-1. St. Augustine scored two in the third period to produce the final score. Junior goalie Jack McConeghy had 37 saves.

During the Christmas break, the Pirates took part in the Essex County Holiday Hockey Tournament at Richard J. Codey Arena. On Dec. 26, the Pirates defeated Madison, 4-0. McConeghy made 25 saves to record his first shutout of the season. Freshman forward Thomas Colucci scored in the second period on assists by Bishop and sophomore forward Stephen Buck to make it 1-0 after two periods. In the third period, SHP scored three goals. Junior defenseman Thomas Freda scored unassisted; senior forward Jack Rutter scored on assists by junior forward Matthew Robinson and sophomore forward John O’Hern; and senior forward NIck Scafidi scored in the final minute on an assist by sophomore Gavin Angulo.

On Dec. 29, SHP played St. Rose to a 1-1 tie. Freshman goalie John Profaci made 28 saves. SHP scored with 5:35 left in the opening period on a goal by Buck on assists by Sandomeno and Colucci. St. Rose tied the match in the second period.

On Dec. 30, the Pirates lost to St. Joseph of Montvale, 5-1. SHP opened the scoring in the first period when Colucci scored on an assist by Bishop. St. Joseph tied the match in the second period and scored four goals in the third period. McConeghy made 25 saves.
