Seton Hall Prep ice hockey team raises record to 8-5-3

WEST ORANGE, NJ – The Seton Hall Prep ice hockey team went 1-1 last week to raise its record on the season to 8-5-3.

On Thursday, Jan. 11, the Pirates traveled to the Ice Land Skating Center in Hamilton Township to take on The Hun School, which won, 4-3.  

Hun took a 2-0 in the first period before SHP tied the score at 2-2 when Thomas Colucci scored two goals :21 apart. John O’Hern picked up two assists, and Stephen Buck and JP Foley also had assists during that sequence. In the third period Hun scored to make it 3-2 before Buck scored with 9:41 left to tie the score at 3-3 on assists by O’Hern and Colucci. Hun scored just :33 later to take the lead for good.

On Saturday, Jan. 13, the Pirates hosted Point Pleasant Boro on Senior Day and came from behind to win, 5-3, at Richard J. Codey Arena. Before the game, the 14 seniors were honored for their four years of service to the SHP hockey program.

SHP opened the scoring in the first period with just 1:51 left when Jake Sandomeno scored on assists by Colucci and Buck. Point Pleasant scored two goals in the second period to take a 2-1 lead into the third period. Colucci opened the scoring in the period with 10:41 left on a slap shot from the top of the circles on an assist by Buck to tie the score at 2-2. SHP took the lead when Devon Dobres finished the rebound in the slot of a Jack Bachman shot. Point Pleasant tied the score at 3-3 just four minutes later. SHP took a 4-3 lead when O’Hern tapped home a loose puck when the Point Pleasant goalie could not handle corral Buck’s initial shot. Colucci added an empty net goal with 1:45 left to make the final score 5-3.
