Seton Hall Prep lacrosse completes season with 12-3 record

WEST ORANGE, NJ — The Seton Hall Prep lacrosse team dropped a heartbreaking 7-6 overtime decision to Delbarton in the Non-Public “A” State Tournament semifinals at Brendan P. Tevlin Memorial Field on June 7. 

Trailing 4-2 at halftime, junior James Bailey cut the Delbarton lead to 4-3 with 6:57 left in the third quarter before Delbarton increased its lead to 5-3 with 2:28 left. Junior Quinn Spillett scored just 10 seconds later to make the score 5-4 after three quarters. 

Senior Quinn Moore tied the score at 5-5 on an assist by junior Matt Wrede with 6:36 left. After Delbarton took a 6-5 lead with 3:48 left, senior Max Merklinger tied the score at 6-6 with just :53 left. 

Delbarton won the game when it scored with 3:09 left in the overtime period. 

Wrede and Moore scored in the first half for the Pirates. 

Among the highlights from the season, the Pirates captured their 11th Essex County Tournament Title — making this their eighth in a row — while also winning the Super Essex Conference–American Division Title for the seventh consecutive year.

FINAL STATS: Player goals-assists: senior Jack Dunleavy 32-14, Wrede 23-33, Moore 22-8, Merklinger 18-14, Spillett 16-13, junior Kevin Agnew 15-8, Bailey 10-5, senior Will Ferraro 8-5 and junior Max Racich 5-7. 

Senior Harrison Rocheville won 110 of 184 faceoffs while junior Will Giarrusso won 43 of 77 faceoffs. Senior goalie Ryan DellaRocco had 79 saves and allowed 45 goals; junior John Zanelli had 42 saves and allowed 18 goals; and senior Miles Nippes had nine saves and allowed four goals.
