Seton Hall Prep lacrosse team falls to Bergen Catholic in Non-Public A tournament semifinals to finish banner 15-5 season

WEST ORANGE – The Seton Hall Prep varsity lacrosse team, under longtime head coach Dave Giarrusso, finished another banner season.

The third-seeded Pirates lost at second-seeded Bergen Catholic, 14-12, in the semifinals of the state Non-Public A tournament on May 28 in Oradell.

SHP made a strong comeback attempt. Trailing 12-5 at the end of the third quarter, the Pirates outscored Bergen Catholic, 7-2, in the fourth quarter, but the rally fell short.

Sophomore Griffin Westlin had five goals; senior Christian Morano had two goals and one assist; senior Jack Rutter scored twice; senior Sean Leahey posted one goal and two assists; junior Michael Mughetto and senior Jack Gorelick each had a goal; sophomore Jack Sarson added one assist and senior goalie Colin Kirst made 12 saves for the Pirates, who finished the season with a 15-5 record, including winning the Essex County Tournament title for the fourth straight year.
