Seton Hall Prep lacrosse team wins Essex County Tournament title for fourth straight season

The Seton Hall Prep varsity lacrosse team captured the Essex County Tournament championship for the fourth consecutive season with an emphatic 18-6 win over Montclair in the ECT final on Saturday, May 7, at Nutley HIgh School’s Tangorra Field/Park Oval.

Sophomore Jack Sarson scored five goals and junior Brian Tevlin had three goals and three assists to lead the Pirates, who led 14-1 at halftime.

Sophomore Griffin Westlin had two goals and four assists; sophomore Dan Zarillo had two goals and one assist; junior Alexander Giaquinto, senior Jack Gorelick, senior Cole Kirst, senior Liam McCabe, senior Jack Rutter, and freshman Cullen Wolff each had one goal and junior Michael Mughetto had one assist for the Pirates. Sophomore Will Juhlin made two saves and Kirst and sophomore Cameron Fiore each had one save.

Under longtime head coach Dave Giarrusso, the Pirates improved to an 11-4 record. Montclair was the No. 6 seed and moved to 4-11.

Sarson scored five goals and added one assist; Tevlin had three goals and two assists and McCabe also had three goals in the 16-8 win over ninth-seeded Columbia, 16-8, in the quarterfinals on May 3.

Westlin had two goals and two assists; Mughetto had one goal and two assists; and senior Sam Corazza and Rutter each had a goal for the Pirates. Kirst made 10 saves and Fiore made seven saves.

Tevlin scored two goals and had one assist and senior Sean Leahey had one goal in the 8-5 win over fourth-seeded Montclair Kimberley Academy in the semifinals on May 5 at Verducci Field.

Gorelick, junior Sean Quinn,  Sarson, and Westlin each had a goal and Rutter had three assists for the Pirates. Kirst made 14 saves.
