Seton Hall Prep lacrosse team wins sixth straight ECT title

WEST ORANGE, NJ – The Seton Hall Prep varsity lacrosse team continued its dominance in Essex County.

The top-seeded Pirates put on quite a show in the Essex County Tournament final with an emphatic 22-11 win over third-seeded Caldwell on Saturday night, May 5, at Verona High School.

The Pirates, under 11th-year head coach Dave Giarrusso, won the ECT title for the sixth consecutive season.

Jack Sarson scored seven goals and added one assist and fellow senior Griffin Westlin had five goals and five assists for the Pirates, who improved to 14-1 this season with their ninth straight win.

Sophomore Kyle Stephenson had three goals and two assists and senior Cole Kirst had two goals and nine assists for SHP. Kirst also had seven ground balls. Thomas Colucci, Tim Crandall, Connell Kumar, Zach Lucas, and Chase Malatesta each had a goal.

Cameron Fiore made five saves and Will Juhlin made three saves for SHP.

The Pirates defeated ninth-seeded West Essex, 20-5, in the quarterfinals May 1. Westlin had five goals and five assists; Kirst had five goals and three assists; Kumar and Sarson each had two goals and an assist and Luke Blanc had two goals to lead SHP.  Stephenson had one goal and three assists.

Westlin had six goals and five assists and Sarson had five goals in the 22-8 home win over fourth-seeded Livingston on May 3. Stephenson had three goals; Kirst had two goals and eight assists and Kumar had two goals and an assist to lead the Pirates.
