UPDATE: Seton Hall Prep soccer players earn All-Area and All-SEC honors

WEST ORANGE – The Seton Hall Prep varsity soccer team enjoyed another stellar season.

The Pirates, under 30th-year head coach Marty Berman, finished with an 18-2-3 record, winning the Essex County Tournament championship.

The following SHP players have earned Worrall Media All-Area honors: Brett Rojas, Achim Younker, Tristan Stowell, Shawn Zimmerman, Mason Toye, Michael Pavick, Joe Giovinco, Ryan Vazquez, Brian Tevlin, and Greg Irwin.

In addition, Rojas and West Orange High School’s Zach Brown are the All-Area co-Players of the Year.

The following are the season statistics for those SHP players:

  • Rojas, senior midfielder, 17 goals and 19 assists.
  • Zimmermann, senior defender, two goals and 12 assists.
  • Pavick, sophomore midfielder, nine goals and two assists.
  • Stowell, senior defender, one goal and seven assists.
  • Younker, senior midfielder, nine goals and seven assists.
  • Giovinco, senior forward, seven goals and four assists.
  • Vazquez, junior midfielder, six goals and five assists.
  • Tevlin, junior midfielder, six goals and four assists.
  • Toye, junior forward, eight goals and six assists.
  • Irwin, senior goalie, 22 games, 17-2-3 record, 15 goals allowed, 0.68 goals-against average, three shutouts.

On the All-Super Essex Conference-American Division, Rojas, Younker, and Stowell made first team; Zimmerman made second team and Toye and SHP senior defender Stephen Liss made honorable mention on the All-SEC-American.

Berman, a West Orange resident, won his 400th game this season when the Pirates beat Newark Academy, 3-1, Oct. 17. Berman’s career record is 406-180-53.
