Seton Hall Prep soccer team defeats Summit in season opener

The Seton Hall Prep soccer team opened its 2017 season on Saturday, Sept. 9, traveling to Tatlock Field at Summit HS and defeated Summit, 4-1.

Senior forward Michael Pavick opened the scoring with 22:16 left in the first half on an assist by senior defender Adam Silva.

Senior defender Jason Gomes increased the SHP lead to 2-0 with 21:02 left on assists by senior midfielder Nick Kriak and senior defender Adam Silva and Jon Ned closed out the SHP scoring in the first half with 17:29 left on assists by senior midfielder Paul Silva and sophomore forward Aidan Dunphy before Summit scored with 6:42 left to make the halftime score, 3-1.

Pavick scored his second goal with 33:31 left in the second half on assists by Dunphy and Kriak. Junior goalie Liam Bertrand had one save and senior Gabe Ferreira had one save as SHP outshot Summit 11-3.

The SHP-Newark East Side  match on Sept. 6 was postponed and rescheduled for Monday, Oct. 16, at 4 p.m. at the Ironbound Recreation Center.

Seton Hall Prep is currently ranked No. 35 in the TopDrawerSoccer.Com Fab 50 National Poll and No. 8 in the East Region. In the NJ.com poll, they are currently ranked No. 2 in New Jersey.
