Seton Hall Prep soccer team goes 3-0 during the week to move to 11-1-1

WEST ORANGE, NJ (updated Tuesday Oct. 11, 1:32 p.m.) – The Seton Hall Prep varsity soccer team went 3-0 this past week to raise its record to 11-1-1.

On Oct. 4, the Pirates traveled to the Rev. Ronald B. Christian Sports Complex at Weequahic Park in Newark and defeated Newark Tech, 2-0.

Senior forward Ryan Vazquez opened the scoring when he headed in a corner kick from senior defenseman James Reardon with 7:00 left in the first half. Junior midfielder Michael Pavick scored on assists by Vazquez and senior defenseman Jonathan Santos with 2:18 left in the match for a 2-0 lead.

Sophomore goalie Liam Bertrand had four saves to record the shutout.

On Thursday night, Oct. 6, the Pirates traveled to Kacur Field at Newark Academy in Livingston and defeated Newark Academy, 5-1. Senior forward Mason Toye scored two goals and had one assist, while senior midfielder Brian Tevlin, Vazquez, and sophomore forward Skyler Storms all scored goals. Junior midfielder Nick Kriak had two assists, while senior defenseman Nick Biunno and junior forward Joe Cubero each had one assist.

Bertrand had one save; junior Gabe Ferreira had two saves and junior Casey Thompson had one save.

On Saturday, Oct. 8, the Pirates traveled to Harvey Field in Kearny and defeated Kearny, 3-0. After a scoreless first half, Vazquez scored on a pass from Kriak in the 61st minute. Toye  scored in the 67th minute on a direct free kick to make the score 2-0. Pavick closed out the scoring in the 70th minute on assists by Tevlin  and Toye. Bertrand had four saves and Ferreira had one save as SHP recorded its seventh shutout of the year.
