Seton Hall Prep soccer team moves to 13-2-2; gains No. 3 seed in ECT

WEST ORANGE, NJ – The Seton Hall Prep varsity soccer team went 2-1 last week to raise its record to 13-2-2 on the season.

On Monday, Oct. 8, the Pirates hosted Millburn at Brendan P. Tevlin Memorial Field and lost 1-0.

Millburn scored with 24:43 left in the first half. Seton Hall almost tied it up with 3:34 left in the match when the Millburn goalie stopped a penalty kick.

On Wednesday, Oct. 10, the Pirates hosted Belleville and won, 6-0. Rafael de la Torre opened the scoring with an assist by Lucas Ross 7:56 into the first half. With 1:45 left, William Monroy scored on an assist by Brian Zimmermann to make it 2-0. In the second half, Zimmermann, Ross, Aidan Dunphy, and Ben Chambeau all scored while Ross had two assists, Skyler Storms had two assists, and Dunphy, Sal Vito, Dylan Perez, and Nick Sprague each had an assist. Liam Bertrand, Tomas Hut, and Nick Hiel had one save apiece while Anthony Petruzziello had two saves to record the clean sheet.

On Saturday, Oct. 13, the Pirates traveled to Monroe HS to participate in the Greater Middlesex Conference/Central Jersey Shootout. They defeated Monroe, 2-1. They outshot Monroe, 11-4, as Bertrand came up with three saves.

Lucas Ross scored off a feed from Dunphy with 12:32 remaining to give SHP a 2-1 lead. Monroe had tied the match at 1-1 early in the 2nd half. SH took a 1-0 lead in the first half on an own goal.

The defending champion Pirates also received the No. 3 seed in the Essex County Tournament and will host a round of 16 game on Thursday, Oct. 18 against an opponent to be determined. The quarterfinals are Oct. 20 at the higher-seeded sites. The semifinals are Oct. 25 at Livingston HS and the final is Oct. 27 at Millburn HS. Montclair is the No. 1 seed and Millburn is the No. 2 seed in the 31-team field.
