Seton Hall Prep soccer team raises record to 10-1 with a perfect week

WEST ORANGE, NJ – The Seton Hall Prep varsity soccer team went 3-0 this past week to raise its record to 10-1 on the season.

On Sept. 25, the Pirates traveled to Bonnel Field in Caldwell and defeated them 4-0. Brian Zimmermann opened the scoring on assists by Paul Silva and Adam Silva with 33:02 left in the first half. They added three goals in the second half. Max Engelbrechtsen scored on a penalty kick, Adam Silva hit a bullet from 30 yards out on an assist by Aidan Dunphy, and Joe Cubero scored on an assist by Tyler Davis. Anthony Petruzziello had three saves for the shutout.

On Sept. 27, the Pirates traveled to Allan “Jake” Jacobson field at Livingston HS and defeated Livingston, 4-0. Cubero opened the scoring with 13:22 left in the first half on assists by Dunphy and Jason Gomes. Again, SHP scored three goals in the second half. Jon Ned scored on an assist from Engelbrechtsen, Adam Silva scored on an assist from Engelbrechtsen, and Davis scored on an assist from Rafael de la Torre. Petruzziello had three saves to secure his third consecutive shutout of the season and the team’s sixth of the season.

On Friday, Sept. 29, the Pirates hosted Central HS from Newark at Brendan P. Tevlin Memorial Field. SHP won, 6-2. Dunphy scored just :42 into the match on assists by Ned and Joe Kearns. Ned scored on assists by Nick Kriak and Cubero and Rocco Capozza scored on a penalty kick to give SHP a 3-0 lead. Central fought back scoring two goals in the final 16:14 of the first half to cut the SHP lead to 3-2 at the half.

In the second half, SHP pulled away, scoring three goals. Cubero scored on assists from Kriak and Capozza, Gomes scored unassisted and Gomes scored again from on assist from Zimmermann. Petruzziello had two saves and Tomas Hut had two saves.
