Seton Hall Prep soccer team raises record to 6-1 this season; head coach Marty Berman earns 450th career victory

WEST ORANGE, NJ – The Seton Hall Prep varsity soccer team had a great week going 4-0 to raise its record to 6-1 on the season.

On Monday, Sept. 10, the Pirates hosted Trenton Central at Tevlin Field and won 5-1. Skyler Storms opened the scoring on assists by Jon Ned and Brian Zimmermann. Aiden Dunphy scored to make it 2-0 on an assist by Luc

Ross. Ross then scored assisted by Nate Dean. Dean closed out the scoring in the first half on an assist by Dunphy. Dylan Perez added a second-half goal on assists by Ben Chambeau and William Monroy. Goalies Liam Bertrand, Tomas Hut, and Anthony Petruzziello all had one save while Nick Hiel had three saves for SHP.

On Thursday, Sept. 13, the Pirates traveled to Livingston and won 3-1. Trailing 1-0, Seton Hall tied the scored when Dean scored off of assists by Ross and Joe Kearns with 10:04 left in the first half. Seton Hall took the lead when Zimmermann scored on assists by Jason Pereira and Dunphy with 25:07 left in the second half. SHP added an insurance goal by Dunphy, assisted by Pereira with 17:35 left. This victory was head coach Marty Berman’s 450th of his outstanding career. Under Berman’s direction, the program won two Non-Public “A” Championships (2007 & 2009) and four North Jersey, Non-Public “A” Championships (2005, 07, 09, 16). In Essex County, it has dominated with the last two Super Essex Conference American Division titles and six of the last nine. Before it competed in the SEC, Berman led SHP to six Iron Hills Conference-Iron Division Titles. He has won the Essex County Tournament four times including last season. Upon learning of this milestone victory, Berman said, “I have been so blessed. I have had some great, hardworking players and some very talented, skilled players. I have also had many great assistant coaches through the years. The 450 wins is really a testament to all the players and coaches that have come through our program over the last 33 years.”

On Saturday, Sept. 15, the Pirates traveled to Montclair to take on Montclair Kimberley Academy and won 2-0. In the first half with only :46 left Pereira scored from 12 yards out on assists by Dean and Kearns. In the second half Ross scored off of a corner kick by Zimmermann. Bertrand had six saves and Hut had one save to record the shutout.  On Sunday, Sept. 16, they traveled to the United Sports Training Center in Downingtown, Pa. to take on Delran from South Jersey. After a scoreless first half, Seton Hall dominated the second half, scoring three goals and won 3-0. With 20:11 left, Brandon Real one timed a Zimmermann corner from 18 yards out to make it 1-0. Zimmermann scored on assists by Dunphy and Kearns with 15:07 left to increase the lead to 2-0. Ross made it 3-0 on assists by Dean and Monroy. Bertrand had six saves while Hut had one save to record their second consecutive clean sheet of the season. Following the match, Berman said, “In the second half, our ball movement and our decision making created great chances and we put on an impressive show today.”
