Seton Hall Prep soccer team reaches Non-Public ‘A’ North Jersey Tournament championship game

WEST ORANGE, NJ – The second-seeded Seton Hall Prep varsity soccer team raised its record to 19-2-1 with wins over Don Bosco Prep and St. Peter’s Prep to advance to the championship game of the NJSIAA Non-Public “A” North Jersey State Tournament.

The Pirates played host to No. 7 seed Don Bosco Prep in the quarterfinal round in a game played last Thursday, Nov. 3, at Owen T. Carroll Field on the campus of Seton Hall University. SHP defeated DBP, 1-0, when senior forward Mason Toye scored with :01 second remaining in the first overtime period on an assist by senior defenseman Michael Georgiou. SHP outshot DBP, 10-1, as sophomore goalie Liam Bertrand had one save to record his sixth shutout of the season.

The Pirates defeated St. Peter’s Prep, 3-0, at Owen T. Carroll Field on Monday, Nov. 7. The Pirates will travel to Passaic County Tech in Wayne to face No. 4 seed Delbarton in the championship game on Thursday, Nov. 10, at 7:30 p.m.

Toye opened the scoring just 2:45 into the first half on an assist by junior midfielder Nick Kriak, who is a West Orange resident. Toye scored his second goal of the match and his 20th of the season with 4:59 left on an assist by sophomore midfielder Joe Kearns. Senior forward Ryan Vazquez scored 9:17 into the second half on assists by junior midfielder Michael Pavick and Toye. Bertrand had eight saves and junior Gabe Ferreira had one save to give their Pirates their 12th shutout of the season. SHP outshot St. Peter’s Prep, 12-9.
