Seton Hall Prep standout wrestler Aidan Monteverdi receives New York Athletic Club’s Scholastic Achievement Award

WEST ORANGE, NJ – Seton Hall Prep senior wrestler Aidan Monteverdi, who finished fourth in the 170-pound weight class at the NJSIAA state tournament in Atlantic City to complete the season earlier this month, recently was  presented with the New York Athletic Club’s Scholastic Achievement Award at the Park Savoy.

This award was presented by New York Athletic Club Wrestling Club President John Tush, who said, “I began coaching Aidan when he was ending eighth grade and entering Seton Hall Prep. Aidan’s commitment to becoming the best he could be, understanding that ‘doing little things right, all the time, on and off the mat’ was a cadence he had to live by and a philosophy that would give him a chance to do something special. Doing more reps, drilling a little more, winning every sprint is only a part of this cadence for Aidan. He makes sure that the freshman in the corner is coming along for the ride as well.. As impressed as we all are of his wrestling, it is the person that shines. The New York Athletic Club is thrilled to be a part of his journey as a supporter and a fan.”

Reflecting on receiving this award, Monteverdi said, “I wasn’t really expecting it. I have been very excited to be a part of the New York Athletic Club for the last six years. I never thought that I would receive such a prestigious award, especially from a great coach like John Tush.”

Monteverdi was one of the best wrestlers in SHP history. This season, he was named the Essex County Tournament Most Outstanding Wrestler. He also won the District 13 Tournament title and took second in the Region 4 Tournament to reach the state tournament. Monteverdi fashioned a 40-3 record this season and a 127-28 career mark.
