Seton Hall Prep track and field team excels at North Non-Public ‘A’ State meet

WEST ORANGE, NJ – The Seton Hall Prep track and field team finished third overall in the team standings among the eight scoring teams at the NJSIAA North Jersey Non-Public “A” State Championships held at Don Bosco Prep in Ramsey, May 21-22. Delbarton finished first and St. Peter’s Prep was second.

Nick Parisi won the 200-meter dash in 22.20; finished second in the 100-meter dash in 10.97; and took seventh in the 400-meter dash in 52.15 to lead the Pirates.

Anthony Algieri won the 110 hurdles in 14.75. Jesse Reid won the long jump at 20 feet-6 inches and Justice Sims won the triple jump at 44-9 ½.

SHP had other fine efforts.

In the 100-meter dash, Ross Johnson took eighth in 11.29. In the 200-meter dash, Reid was sixth in 22.88 and Quentin Phanord took eighth in 23.30.

Roberto Hormazabel took sixth in the 110 hurdles in 15.84 and fourth in the 400 hurdles in 58.32. Algieri was seventh in the 400 hurdles in 58.83 and Nick Spinnler took eighth in 59.60 in the 400 hurdles.

The 4×100 relay team was third in 43.67; the 4×400 took fifth in 3:35.73; and the 4×800 was fourth in 8:40.51. In the long jump, Sims took fourth at 19-7 ¾ and Kennith Washington was sixth at 19-6 ½. In the triple jump, Washington was third in 43-9 ½ and Reid was eighth in 39-6 ½. In the pole vault, Chris Pepper was fourth at 10-0 and Sean Wieszczek was sixth at 9-6.

In the discus, Caseem Akinruli-Dewitt was sixth at 127-11 and Samad Cohen-Calloway was eighth at 119-8.

Algieri was fourth in the javelin at 143-11 and Akinruli-Dewitt was third in the shot put at 48-7 ½.

The top eight finishers in each event qualified for the NJSIAA Non-Public “A” State Championships at Franklin HS, June 1-2.
