Seton Hall Prep track and field team excels at state Non-Public A Championships

WEST ORANGE – The Seton Hall Prep track and field team tied for eighth overall in the team standings with Donovan Catholic and Pope John at the state Non-Public A Championships at Egg Harbor, June 3-4.

The Pirates had 26 points based on the top six finishes in each event. The meet consisted of the top six finishers in each event at the state sectionals the previous weekend.

The Pirates had strong performances. Sophomore Nick Parisi took third in the 400-meter dash in 49.42 and fourth in the 200-meter dash in 22.52. Senior Mark Morrison took fourth in the 800-meter run in 1:58.92.

Senior Brandon Moorer, Parisi, sophomore Jesse Reid and junior Dwayne Warren took fourth in the 4×1000-meter relay in 43.97. Warren, Morrison, Parisi and Reid placed fourth in the 4×400 relay in 3:26.11. Sophomore Justice Sims finished fourth in the triple jump at 42 feet-8 ½ inches. Senior Ikem Eguh took seventh at 40-8 ¼ and senior Ammari Sylla was 12th at 38 feet-½ inch in the triple jump.

Sophomore Anthony Algieri was 13th in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles in 1:00.75. Junior Malik Kosanovich was 12th in the 1,600 in 4:29.61. Morrison, Kosanovich, junior Phillip Sprague and sophomore Matt Williams finished eighth in the 4×800 in 8:26.62.

In the long jump, Eguh took ninth at 20-2 and senior William Rockson was 12th at 19-2. In the javelin, senior Connor McSherry was ninth at 155-11 and freshman Justin Jimerson took 11th at 147-0. In the pole vault, senior James McGuire and McSherry tied for eighth at 10-6. Sophomore Brandon Hicks took 10th in the 800 in 2:00.68. Sophomore Dan Gizzo placed eighth in the 3,200 in 9:46.55.

The top six finishers in each event, plus wild-card berths, qualified for the state Meet of Champions at Clearview Regional HS in Bayville on June 8.
