WEST ORANGE – The Seton Hall Prep track and field team took second and West Orange High School took fifth in the boys’ team standings at the Essex County Relays at Livingston High School on Friday, May 6.
East Orange finished with 69 points. Seton Hall Prep was second with 53 points, followed Weequahic (47), Montclair (46) and West Orange (42).
The WOHS girls’ team finished fourth overall in the girls’ team standings. Columbia won the team title for the eighth straight year. Montclair was second and Millburn third.
The SHP Pirates won the 4×100 relay in 43.33; took third in the 4×400 in 3:26.93; fourth in the sprint medley relay in 3:42.3; fourth in the 4×800 in 8:14.11; fourth in the long jump relay at 37 feet, 2 inches; second in the pole vault relay at 20-0; third in the triple jump relay at 82-10; sixth in the high jump relay at 10-9; third in the discus relay at 240-10; fourth in the javelin relay at 241-0; and sixth in the shot put relay at 80-7.
The WOHS boys’ team took third in the high jump relay at 11-3, as Timothy VanCauwenberge took first at 6-0.
The WOHS boys took fifth in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles relay in 3:05.89; third in the 4×100 in 44.47; third in the shuttle hurdle relay in 1:02.62; third in the 4×200 in 10:57.83; second in the 4×400 in 10:57.83; third in the 4×800 in 8:08.98; and fifth in the triple jump relay at 81-11 1/4 (Jamal Dryden, third, 43-5 3/4).
The WOHS girls won the shuttle hurdle relay in 1:08.36, with Tyra Brooks, Jamie Maul and Bukola Akinsola. In the 400-meter intermediate hurdles, Akinsola was fourth in 1:05.59; Maul was seventh at 1:11.45 and Lewis was 11th in 1:12.89 as they combined to win the event.
The WOHS girls also took third in the 4×1,600 in 23:54.07; fifth in the 4×400 in 4:17.53; and fifth in the sprint medley relay in 4:30.42. Sarah Soy was third in the discus at 92-10 and fourth in the shot put at 33-8. Overall, the girls’ shot put relay was third.
