Seton Hall Prep wrestling team finishes third at District 10 Tournament, led by four champions

WEST ORANGE – Led by four individual champions, the Seton Hall Prep varsity wrestling team finished third overall among the 10 teams at the District 10 Tournament at Millburn High School on Feb. 20.

Sophomore Charles Cunningham, junior Aidan Monteverdi, junior T.J. Calas and freshman Jonathan Alvarado won their respective weight class titles to lead the Pirates, who finished with 159 points, six points behind second-place Union. Monteverdi won his third district title; Calas won his second district crown; and Cunningham and Alvarado each won their first district championship.

Roselle Park won the team title with 188.5 points.

Sophomores Maguire Pecci and Danny Young each finished second and junior Jake Smith took third in their weight classes for SHP.

The seven SHP wrestlers will advance to the Region 3 Tournament at Union HS, Feb. 24, 26-27. The top three finishers in each weight class at the District Tournament qualified for the Region Tournament.

Senior Joe Pratola finished in fourth place for SHP, just missed qualifying for the Region Tournament.
