SHP baseball team concludes season with a 20-6-1 record

WEST ORANGE, NJ — On Monday, June 7, the Seton Hall Prep Pirates played Delbarton in the semifinal round of the NJSIAA Non-Public “A” North State Tournament at Porcello Field in West Orange. Seton Hall Prep dropped a 3-0 decision to complete its season with a 20-6-1 record. 

Senior Dominick Carlucci had a double to left centerfield in the first inning for the only Pirate hit and he also drew two walks. Senior Andrew Fernandez also drew a walk while senior Karson Harcourt was hit twice by pitches. The Pirates had only six baserunners. 

This past season, Seton Hall Prep captured its fourth consecutive Super Essex Conference–American Division Title — their ninth in the 11 years of the Super Essex Conference. The team also won 19 of its final 23 games of the season, which included an 11-game winning streak and a five-game winning streak. The team also had a record of 12-4 at Porcello Field, while on the road the team was 8-2-1. The Pirates defeated the Essex County Champion Millburn 11-2, Middlesex County Champion St. Joseph’s from Metuchen 8-2, and the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex County Champion Hunterdon Central 7-6. 

FINAL STATS: For pitching, junior John Cerwinski started eight games, won five games, pitched 33.6 innings and had 45 strikeouts; senior Jayden Barroqueiro pitched two complete games; junior Sam Nomura has eight relief appearances; and junior Ryan Sprock’s earned run average was 1.05.

For batting, Nomura had 93 at bats; Harcourt scored 34 runs; Sprock had 37 hits, 42 runs batted in, four sacrifice flies and a batting average of .463; Fernandez had 11 doubles, 27 walks and an on-base average of .608; senior Cole McGonigal hit two triples; junior Chris Maldonado had six home runs; and Carlucci had eight sacrifice hits.
