SHP wrestling ends its season with a 1-6 record

WEST ORANGE, NJ — The Seton Hall Prep wrestling team completed its dual meet season, dropping its final two matches to end with a record of 1-6. 

On Tuesday, April 6, the team traveled to Paramus and lost to Paramus Catholic 72-3. At the 138-pound weight class, sophomore Chase Carroll won by a 3-1 decision. 

The next night, April 7, the Pirates hosted Verona at Frank J. Tracey Gymnasium and lost a tight match 39-36 as the following won their bouts: Freshman Casey Farrell won by a 9-5 decision in the 106-pound weight class; freshman Peter Muir won by a 6-5 decision at the 113-pound weight class; freshman Spencer Moser won by forfeit in the 120-pound weight class; senior Robert Crofford pinned his opponent in 1:01 in the 126-pound weight class; Carroll pinned his opponent in 3:52 in the 138-pound weight class; freshman Andrew Montoya won by forfeit in the 220-pound weight class; and senior Kyle Washington won by forfeit in the 285-pound weight class.

Now the postseason will begin as Seton Hall Prep nominated 11 wrestlers for the NJSIAA North 2 Wrestling Tournament, consisting of wrestlers from Regions 3 and 4, held at Union High School on April 17 and 18. The following wrestlers have been nominated: freshman Logan Brzozowski in the 106-pound weight class; junior Joseph Sciarrone in the 113-pound weight class; freshman Carlo Vanvolkenburgh in the 120-pound weight class; senior Gabriel Jimenez in the 132-pound weight class; Chase Carroll in the 138-pound weight class; sophomore Anthony Cerreto in the 145-pound weight class; senior Cole Carroll in the 152-pound weight class; sophomore Stephen O’Neil Jr. in the 160-pound weight class; senior Conner Decker in the 182-pound weight class; senior Jack Wilt in the 195-pound weight class; and senior John Donnelly in the 285-pound weight class.

The top four place finishers in each weight class qualify for the state finals, to be held at Phillipsburg High School on April 24 and 25.
