Surging WOHS boys’ basketball team advances in the Essex County Tournament

WEST ORANGE – The 12th-seeded West Orange High School boys’ varsity basketball team defeated No. 33 seed Montclair Kimberley Academy, 62-40, in the Essex County Tournament second preliminary round on Feb. 6 at home.

The Mountaineers, who won their fourth straight game and 10th in the past 11 games to improve to a stellar 14-2 record, will host No. 21 seed Livingston in the second preliminary round on or by Feb. 11. The winner will visit fifth-seeded West Side in Newark in the first round on Feb. 13.

In previous action, Jeremiah Moore scored 12 points and added seven rebounds and five assists and Patrick Jamison had 10 points to spark the Mountaineers to a 54-37 home win over Shabazz on Feb. 2. Nasheim Harte had nine points.

Harte scored 18 points to lead WOHS to a 53-50 win at Livingston on Feb. 4. Gabe Silvera had 14 points and Moore had 13.

WOHS is 2-0 against Livingston this season in Super Essex Conference-Liberty Division play.
