Swansea U10 girls’ soccer team earns wins; Furty U12 girls still unbeaten

WEST ORANGE – On a beautiful Mother’s Day afternoon, the U10 Swansea girls soccer team of the West Orange United Soccer Club defeated Tenafly 6-2 at the Alpine Elementary School. Fazi Annan opened the scoring for Swansea after a long scramble in the goal mouth. Lucy Fishkin doubled the lead with a shot from outside the box that found the far corner of the Tenafly net. Two goals by the hosts knotted the score at halftime. After the break, Swansea grabbed the lead again after a Gianna D’Amore shot was bobbled by the Tenafly keeper, and Francesca Schuler slammed home the loose ball.

D’Amore picked up her first goal of the match, settling a long throw-in by Annan and beating the keeper. Schuler notched her second goal on the day, tenaciously following a shot to extend the Swansea lead to 5-2. D’Amore scored on a looping shot after a strong Fishkin free kick to make the final score 6-2 in favor of West Orange. Josephine Locricchio was solid in net for Swansea. Amie Binan, Charlotte Lewis, Brooke Schenk, Madison Cyrus, and Morgan Miller provided strong midfield play throughout the match.

The following windy Sunday afternoon, the U10 Swansea girls defeated an unbeaten and little scored upon Vikings team 4-3 in a physical match at Myrtle Field in Haworth. Maya Bank opened the scoring for Swansea on a re-directed Gianna D’Amore shot that bounced off the goalkeeper. Going into halftime with a 1-0 lead, goalkeeper Shelly Guallpa was working on a stellar performance. Following the break, Gianna D’Amore doubled the lead with a goal early  to start the second half. Following a goal by the Vikings, Francesca Schuler scored on a beautiful pass from Morgan Miller. Chloe Mondi extended the lead with her first goal of the season, from inside the box. Two goals by the host team cut the lead to 4-3 late in the game.  Thanks to the excellent defensive play by Lucy Fishkin, Madison Cyrus, Josephine Locricchio,Brooke Schenk, Morgan Miller  and excellent goal tending by Shelly Guallpa, the score remained the same.

The Sounders U10 boys traveled to Wayne this past Sunday, May 15, to take on Sportsfriends. Sportsfriends took an early lead and did not let the Sounders back onto the game as they won 10-4. The Sounders’ four goals were scored by Mike Udodi, Hudson Stovall, Julian Bock and Cameron Morgan. The Sounders are now 4-4-0 on the season.

The Fury U12 girls defeated Randolph, 4-0. Olivia Telemaque and Caitlin Bridgers scored the first two goals. Kennedy Morgan scored the next two goals with Lizzie Fleming assisting on her first goal. Goal-scorers Britney Fort Foskey and Madison Oliver and Fleming all had excellent field play. Nia Simmons, Delia Wasky, Anna Akerblom and Tori Rideau Winds were tenacious in maintaining their mighty defense. Camille Ferrell recorded the shutout, the fifth o the season. The Fury maintain their undefeated season again with no subs, as their season record is 7-0.
