United Soccer Club finishes successful season

WEST ORANGE – The West Orange United Soccer Club concluded another successful fall season.

On Saturday, Nov. 21, the Sounders U10 boys traveled to Garfield to take on SC Vistula.  Garfield took the game, 5-0, to hand the Sounders their first loss of the season. Despite the loss, the Sounders still took first place in the division with a final record of 7-1-2.

Also on Nov. 21, the Liverpool U12 boys finished their second undefeated season with a 12-2 win over Ridgefield Park’s New Revolution.  In the first half, goalkeeper Jeremy Green made some fantastic saves to keep Revolution out of the scoring. Liverpool played fast, entertaining soccer, with four goals from Ari Rosu, two goals from  Francisco Socca, two goals from Corey Turnbull, two goals from Nico Vasquez, and one goal each from Ameni Annan and Jeremy Green. Despite stong goaltending by Angus Kupinas, Revolution managed to score a couple of goals in the second half. Jack Quirk, through valiant efforts, had a goal disallowed by the referee. Dylan Retino hit the goal post and had shots saved. Santiago Orrico, with his great vision, provided excellent through balls, providing the assist for numerous players. Max Fishkin once again played hard and tough, frustrating the Revolution attack.

On Sunday, Nov. 22, the Milan U13 girls played Nutley away and won, 4-1. Two goals were scored by Emerson Wolf off assists from Alexa Pena and Lizzie Fleming. Emerson also had saves in goal in the second half. Olivia Telamaque scored the first goal with an assist from Kaiya Clarke. Gianna Festino redirected a nice shot for the final goal. Additional offensive efforts from Nneka Arinzeh, Caitlin Bridgers, Alisa Chant, and Isabelle Cohen secured the win. Lily Stevens, Mackenzie Dover and Ilayda Vural thwarted Nutley’s offense. Goalie Cassidy Joyce had saves in the first half. Milan finished second in their division.

The Magic U11 girls played their last game of the season against the Maroons. The Magic went into the game in second place, one point behind the Maroons. Within the first 20 minutes of the game the team found themselves down 2-0 until Eliza Sanders managed to put away a loose ball in the box to make it 2-1. Before the end of the first half, the Magic conceded a third goal to go down 3-1.

The Magic pride themselves in never giving up and that’s exactly what they did. In the 10th minute of the second half, Kiley Capstraw found the back of the net off a great assist from Sidda Mitchell. Minutes later, Sidda recorded her second assist when she found Anna Deer who scored the third goal to tie the game. The Magic continued to put pressure on the Maroons and their efforts were rewarded with the winning goal scored by Kiley Capstraw off an assist from Anna Deer. The Magic dominated the second half of the game from excellent play from Samantha Galantini in the middle of the pitch as well as outstanding defensive stance from Valentina Pappano and Keira Davies. Victoria Figueroa recorded two important saves in the second half, which were crucial in the outcome of the game. Charley Dvorin, Anna Shelley, Kianna Hill and Chase Morgan were also influential in the win. The Magic won the NCSA flight 2 division with a record of 8-1-1.
