WEST ORANGE – West Orange United Soccer Club teams enjoyed impressive wins for the week-ending May 1.
The Swansea U10 girls won both of their matches last weekend, one in the NCSA Cup, and one in the league.
On Saturday, Swansea traveled to Mahwah in the first round of the NCSA U10 Cup, and brought home a 3-0 victory. Gianna D’Amore had all three Swansea goals. Madison Cyrus and Morgan Miller combined on the clean sheet in net. Lucy Fishkin and BrookeSchenk had assists.
On Sunday, Swansea hosted the Cresskill Cougars in league play, and came away with a thrilling 5-4 win. After conceding first off a terrific corner kick, the home side scored twice in two minutes to take the lead on goals from D’Amore and Francesca Schuler. Cresskill came back, with goals on either side of another D’Amore goal to knot the score at 3 in the second half. Maya Bank and Morgan Miller each scored their first goals of the season to push the Swansea advantage to 5-3.
After another Cougars goal cut the lead in half, Charlotte Lewis made a fantastic save in the final minute to preserve the victory. Fazi Annan contributed with strong defensive play all weekend long. Shelly Gualipa, Chloe Mondi, and Josephine Locricchio pushed the tempo in the midfield in both matches.
The Sounders U10 boys hosted Glen Rock this past Sunday andtook away an impressive win, 7-0. With the win, the Sounders are now 2-3-0 on the season. Yann Niamke scored four goals, with Brody Mailman, Cameron Morgan and Julian Bock each scoring one apiece.
The Fury U11 girls trounced Chatham, 5-0. Britney Fort Foskey had two goals and Olivia Telemaque, Lizzie Fleming, and Hannah Lancman each had a goal. Fleming and Forte Foskey each had an assist. Caitlin Bridgers had numerous shots on goal. Tori Rideau Winds, and Nia Simmons led the defense to assist Camille Ferrell in recording the shutout.
