WEST ORANGE, NJ – West Orange High School and Seton Hall Prep track and field athletes enjoyed fine efforts at the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association State Meet of Champions held at Northern Burlington County HS in Columbus on Saturday, June 9.
Seniors Ebizie Anuamadi and Elijah McLaren represented the WOHS boys.
Anuamadi earned the sixth-place medal in the 800-meter run in 1:54.35. McLaren competed in the 110-meter hurdles and triple jump. He finished 10th in the preliminaries of the 110 hurdles in 14.34 and also finished 10th in the triple jump finals with a leap of 43 feet-6 ¾ inches.
The SHP competitors were Nick Parisi, Anthony Algieri, Jesse Reid and the 4×100-meter relay.
Parisi finished 13th in the 200-meter dash final in 22.23 and was fifth in the preliminaries of the 100-meter dash in 10.85.
Algieri placed 13th in the preliminaries of the 110-meter hurdles in 14.62.
Reid finished 27th in the long jump final at 19-11 ¼. The 4×100 relay earned the fifth-place medal in a season-best 42.28.
Sophomores Abigail Vital and Denae Hill represented the WOHS girls. Vital took 17th in the preliminaries of the 100-meter hurdles in 14.91. Hill was 16th in the shot put finals with a throw of 37-3 ½.
The MOC consisted of the top two finishers, plus wild-card berths, in each event from the NJSIAA State Group meets.
This season, WOHS and SHP enjoyed great seasons. The WOHS girls’ team and SHP won the Essex County Relays titles. The WOHS boys’ team, under first-year head coach Jason Jackson, won the NJSIAA North Jersey Section 1, Group 4 State Championships title.
