West Orange HS and Seton Hall Prep track teams boast winners at Essex County meet

WEST ORANGE, NJ – The West Orange and Seton Hall Prep track and field teams enjoyed impressive performances at the Essex County Championships held at Woodman Field in Montclair, May 18-19, under rainy conditions.

In the boys’ team standings, Seton Hall Prep finished third with 54 points and West Orange finished fourth with 43 points. East Orange Campus won the boys’ team title for the fourth straight year, totalling 98 points. St. Benedict’s Prep was second with 68 points.

For SHP, Nick Parisi won the 100-meter dash in 10.84; Kennith Washington won the long jump at 22 feet-4 ¾ inches; and Casem Akinruli-Dewitt won the shot put at 50-9 ½. Anthony Algieri was fourth in both the 110-meter hurdles in 14.78 and in the javelin at 154-3.

In the long jump, Justice Sims was fifth and Jesse Reid was sixth, both at 21-5. Samad Cohen-Calloway was fourth in the discus at 123-3. Keyon Williams was sixth in the pole vault at 10-0. In the triple jump, Sims was third at 43-2 ¼ and Washington finished fifth at 42-0.

For the WOHS boys, Jesus Rojas won the discus event at 130 feet; Ebizie Anuamadi won the 1,600-meter run in 4:27.87 and Elijah McLaren won the triple jump at 46-0. Anuamadi also took fourth in the 800-meter run in 1:57.05. McLaren took sixth in the 110-meter hurdles in 14.96. Rosas placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 47-1 ¾. Dylan Gotay finished fifth in the pole vault at 10-6. L’Trell Bradley was fifth in the high jump at 5-9.

On the girls’ side, WOHS finished fourth with 41 points.

Tyra Brooks took second in the high jump at 5-2 and Abigail Vital placed third in the 400 hurdles in 1:03.44 to pace the WOHS girls. Tiara Wilson, Vital, Kayla Charles and Davionna Phillips took third in the 4×400-meter relay in 4:07.79.  In the discus, Karem Odoemene took fourth at 107-2; Erica Odoemene was fifth and Denae Hill was sixth, each at 106-9. Alina Chant finished fifth in the 3,200 in 12:11.15. In the shot put, Hill was second at 35-9 ¾; and Daniella Hull was fourth at 34-11.

SHP was scheduled to compete in the NJSIAA North Jersey Non-Public A State Championships at Don Bosco Prep in Ramsey, May 21-22.

The WOHS teams will compete in the NJSIAA North Jersey Section 1, Group 4 State Championships at Clifton, May 25-26.
