WEST ORANGE – The West Orange High School and Seton Hall Prep varsity wrestling teams hope to make a strong showing at the Essex County Tournament at Richard J. Codey Arena in West Orange, today and Friday, Jan. 21-22. The action begins at 4 p.m. today and will continue Friday at 6 p.m.
The SHP Pirates won four dual meets last week to extend its winning streak to 10 straight and improve to an 11-3 record.
The Pirates defeated West Essex, 38-35, at home on Jan. 13. With the Pirates trailing heading into the final bout, senior 120-pounder Joe Pratola pinned Michael Tartini in 3:00 to secure the victory.
The Pirates went 3-0 in a quad meet at Morristown on Saturday, Jan. 16, defeating Ramapo, 45-28, Paramus Catholic, 39-33, and Morristown, 46-36.
SHP’s scheduled match with West Orange on Jan. 15 was postponed due to skin infection issues from West Orange wrestlers. WOHS was forced to postpone its meet against Nutley on Jan. 13.
The Pirates were scheduled to visit St. Benedict’s Prep in Newark on Jan. 18 and host Nutley on Jan. 19.
