West Orange HS baseball team keeps up winning ways

WEST ORANGE, NJ – The West Orange High School varsity baseball team defeated Pequannock and Science Park to improve to a 9-4 record.

Vincent DeSantis went 2-for-3 with two runs; Christopher Walker went 1-for-2 with two RBI and two runs; Michael Giovine went 2-for-3 with three RBI; and Kyle Bernokeits struck out eight over six innings, allowing three runs on five hits in the 5-4 home win over Pequannock on April 25.

The Mountaineers defeated Science Park, 15-3, April 27, at home. Walker went 2-for-2 with two doubles and three RBI: Giovine went 2-for-3 with two singles, two RBI and two runs; and DeSantis, Aaron Puryear, Julian Lee and Aidan Healey each had an RBI.

The Mountaineers received the No. 10 seed in the Greater Newark Tournament, which is considered as the Essex County tournament. WOHS will host No. 23 seed University in the preliminary third round on May 3. The winner will visit No.7 seed Newark Academy in the first round on May 5.

In earlier action, WOHS fell to Bloomfield, 14-8, April 24 at home. Walker went 2-for-3 with a homer, two RBI; Tyree Bradley went 1-for-3 with a sac fly, a two-run homer and three RBI; and DeSantis went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer that tied the game at 8-8 in the bottom of the sixth inning.
