WEST ORANGE, NJ — The West Orange High School bowling team has been on a roll, no pun intended.
The Mountaineers, who compete at Eagle Rock Lanes in West Orange, boast a stellar 12-0 record entering the week.
Indeed, the Mountaineers have their sights on contending for county and state titles.
The team is paced by sophomore Kieryn Knox, who has a 216.9 average; senior Garrett Weinstein, who has a 189.1 average; freshman Joshua Allen, 178.7 average; junior Justin Soto, 170.6 average and junior Owen Murphy, 168.1. Knox, Weinstein and Soto are returning players from last year. Other contributors are Scott Lillis, Giovanni Chiovaro and Cole Burdek.
WOHS head coach Bill Urbanski has been pleased with his team’s showings, but acknowledges there’s room for improvement.
“I’m very happy with our performances,” Urbanski said. “We have to improve on 1-pin spares. We keep missing 7 and 10 pins. We just have to clean up some of the aspects of the game and look forward to the states and counties.”
The Essex County Tournament will be held Feb. 3 and the ECT individuals will be two days later, both at Hanover Lanes in East Hanover.
