WEST ORANGE– Amid the hype and attention that comes with winter sports like basketball, wrestling, and indoor track and field, the West Orange High School bowling team has been setting up a dynasty of its own, and they have a recent 14-0 track record to prove it.
The team is in first place in the Liberty Division of the Super Essex Conference.
“They are a talented group who love bowling, and they are always improving their skills by practicing as a group and competing in leagues and tournaments throughout the year,” WOHS head coach Bill Urbanski said.
Freshman phenom Kieryn Knox leads the team with a game average of 190. Justin Soto follows with a 170 average. Garret Weinsteing has a 169 average. Anthony Bollotta and Owen Murphy round out the starting five in the 140s.
The next WOHS boys’ bowling team home match at Eagle Rock Lanes will be against Shabazz, Jan. 24, beginning at 4 p.m.
The Essex County Tournament (team format) will be held Feb. 4 and the ECT indiviudal format will be held Feb. 7, both at Eagle Rock Lanes.
