Mountaineers finish unbeaten in the division; gear up for postseason

WEST ORANGE – The West Orange High School boys’ varsity basketball team, under third-year head coach Greg Tynes, clinched the Super Essex Conference-Colonial Division title.

The Mountaineers finished 12-0 in the division. Last season, the Mountaineers were co-SEC-Division champions with Barringer.

Senior forward Jeremiah Moore scored 20 points and senior guard Patrick Jamison had 15 points on five 3-pointers to lead the Mountaineers to a 51-50 home win over Barringer on Feb. 25. Freshman guard Stephon Sheard had nine points and senior forward Doug Hughes had seven for the Mountaineers, who improved to a 19-3 record with their fourth straight win.

WOHS hoped to make a strong run in the postseason. The third-seeded Mountaineers were scheduled to host 14th-seeded Mount Olive in the first round of the state North Jersey Section 1, Group 4 tournament on March 1. The winner will face either No. 11 seed Paterson Kennedy or No. 6 seed Morristown in the quarterfinals on March 3. The semifinals are March 5 and the final is March 7.
