WEST ORANGE – Doug Hughes’s jumper with two seconds left lifted the West Orange High School boys’ varsity basketball team to a thrilling 51-49 home win over Verona on Jan. 12.
Hughes, a senior guard, finished with 10 points and six rebounds. Senior guard Patrick Jamison had 14 points; senior forward Jeremiah Moore had 12 points; senior forward Andrew Scholz had six points and sophomore guard Nashiem Harte had five points and four assists. Jamison scored 16 points and Scholz had 11 in the 75-34 win over Science Park on Jan. 14 at home. Senior guard Chris Smith and Moore each had 10 points.
Jamison had 21 points, including a three-point buzzer-beater to lift the Mountaineers to a thrilling 52-49 road overtime win over Elizabeth on Jan. 18. Moore had 11 points and eight rebounds; Hughes had eight points and four rebounds and Harte scored six points and dished out four assists as WOHS won its fifth straight to improve to 9-1.
