West Orange HS boys’ basketball team falls to Hackensack in state quarterfinals to finish 16-10 season

WEST ORANGE, NJ – The West Orange High School boys’ varsity basketball team enjoyed a successful season.

The Mountaineers, under second-year head coach Demond Cowins, finished with a 16-10 record after losing at second-seeded Hackensack, 69-66, in the quarterfinals of the NJSIAA North Jersey Section 1, Group 4 tournament on March 1 to end the season.

Senior guard Jelani Jackson had 20 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two steals; and junior guard Goddy Marc had 16 points, three rebounds and three assists for the 10th-seeded Mountaineers. Junior guard Stephon Sheard had 14 points and five rebounds; senior forward Trey Meaux had six points and four rebounds; junior guard Kenyon Sheard posted four points and six rebounds; Chris Latimer added three points; junior forward Toby Okani added two points and three rebounds and senior forward Anant Narain chipped in one point, two rebounds and two assists.
