West Orange HS boys’ basketball team falls to Mount Olive in state tourney opener to end 19-4 banner season

WEST ORANGE – The West Orange High School boys’ varsity basketball team enjoyed a terrific season.

The Mountaineers, seeded third, lost to 14th-seeded Mount Olive, 66-61, in the first round of the state North Jersey Section 1, Group 4 tournament on March 1.

WOHS, under head coach Greg Tynes, finished the season with a stellar 19-4 record.

Junior guard Patrick Jamison scored 23 points and senior forward Doug Hughes had nine points for the Mountaineers, who had their four-game winning streak snapped.

WOHS was missing senior forward Jeremiah Moore, who was sidelined with a stomach virus. Moore led the team in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots and second in assists this season.

Freshman guard Stephon Sheard and sophomore guard Nasheim Harte each had eight points; senior forward Chris Smith had seven and junior guard Gabe Silvera added six for the Mountaineers, who won the Super Essex Conference-Colonial Division title with a unbeaten mark in the division this season.
